Maharashtra government to cancel CET 2021

CET or Common Entrance Test is an entrance examination administered for granting admissions to full-time non-professional and professional undergraduate courses.

This year the Maharashtra government had decided to cancel the CET exams for admissions to all non-professional courses due to the ongoing COVID-19 crisis in the country. The admission to all science, commerce, and art colleges shall be held based on the marks secured by the students in their 10+2 level graduation. However, this is for non-professional courses only, and an MHT CET 2021 exam will be conducted between 4th – 20th September for the admissions into the Engineering courses.

The decision to cancel the CET exams was made on 4 August 2021 in a meeting led by Higher Education Minister Uday Sharma. The judgment was soon met with much opposition by the parents and students, and the government was soon enough to state that it is doing its best to ensure that no student is deprived of admissions to their dream college.

About 99.63% of the students have qualified for the 10+2 level graduation, which is the highest pass percentage recorded by the Maharashtra BOARD to date. Due to this high pass-percentage rate, the competition for admissions to top-rated colleges in Mumbai, Pune, Nagpur, and other Universities in Maharashtra is going to be a tough one. The government of Maharashtra will be announcing a detailed guideline on the matter soon.
