Out of the 146 students admitted in the B.A. (Hons) Political Science program last year in Hindu College, 124 were from state school boards.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The University of Delhi’s new semester begins on Wednesday. There is a distinct change in the admission lists of some colleges this year due to the admission through Common University Entrance Test scores. In order to normalize scores during admissions, this year, students are admitted through CUET instead of the Class XII board exam scores.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Out of the 146 students admitted in the B.A. (Hons) Political Science program last year in Hindu College, 124 were from state school boards. 120 students belonged from the Kerala board, 1 from Haryana and 3 from Rajasthan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, this year, only one of the 59 students admitted is from a state board, i.e., from Kerala board. The sanctioned strength of the course is 49 seats. The B.A. (Hons) Political Science program in Hindu College last year had 100 per cent cutoff for unreserved seats in the first list. The program had received 102 applications on the first day of admissions of which 101 were from Kerala board.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This year, admissions are based on candidates\u2019 CUET scores and their listed college-course preferences. Top scorers in CUET have chosen B.A. (Hons) Political Science program in Hindu College. Out of the 51 students who had scored 800\/800 in CUET, 14 of them had listed this program as their first preference.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Most of the students admitted so far are from CBSE schools, while a smaller number are from CISCE schools. Those admitted in the unreserved seats have scored in the range of 795\/800 to 800\/800.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Moreover, last year, Ramjas College admitted a large number of students from Kerala Board in its B.A. (Hons) Political Science and B.A. program courses. However, most of the new admissions this year are from CBSE board. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

A Kerala students\u2019 association in DU has stated that only fewer students from the state had approached them this year with queries related to admission. This may be due to the introduction of CUET for the first time. Students have claimed that they did not get enough time for preparation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The CUET is based on NCERT syllabus and is different from the state board syllabus. Thus, the students were mandated to prepare separately for it. Students, this year, from Kerala is lower.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The shift to entrance exam-based admission process came after a DU panel brought into notice the problem of unequal admission opportunities for students of different boards. Thus, it recommended for a common entrance test to be held that must be conducted either through an external agency or the University itself.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There were disparities in the average scores of students from the five boards. There were highest admissions till the second cutoff list. The Kerala board students had an average score of 98.43% in Class 12. This was followed by Rajasthan board, Haryana board, CISCE and CBSE students with 94.68%, 92.69%, 92.33% and 91.3% respectively.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Moreover, only one student out of 103 of the 114 students who had scored 100 percentile in at least four CUET papers, was not from a national board. Two from CISCE and 100 were from CBSE from the rest.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
