However, Delhi University held a meeting to discuss whether allowing students to pursue dual degrees is a good idea or not. However, before that, here\u2019s what students feel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Executive Council of Delhi University held a meeting for a crucial discussion. They met to discuss whether students should be allowed to pursue two degrees simultaneously or not. Dual degrees were mainly introduced in the National Education Policy 2020. Guidelines were issued by the University Grants Commission regarding this issue a few months ago.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Students could pursue only one full-time degree earlier. However, they had the privilege of pursuing online or short-term or diploma courses along with their full-time degree. However, students can now choose a combination of an undergraduate (UG) degree and a diploma programme, two bachelor\u2019s programs or two master\u2019s programs. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

If students wish to enrol on two major degrees, they must be sure that the classes do not clash with each other. It is optional for all the universities to adopt this new change. However, Delhi University held a meeting to discuss whether allowing students to pursue dual degrees is a good idea or not. However, before that, here\u2019s what students feel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Charushi Soni<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Charushi Soni is a student of BA (Hons) in Political Science at Miranda House. She stated that in her opinion, pursuing dual degrees sounds really fascinating. Students will be able to gather wide and diverse knowledge. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, speaking practically, it will become difficult and hectic to handle the scenario. This is because there is much to do in a Delhi University college other than academics. Students must manage their classes along with the work of societies and clubs along with other activities. However, if students are given the option to pursue any one of the two degrees online, it might be manageable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Animesh Singh Khatana<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Animesh Singh Khatana is a student pursuing a BA Programme at Motilal Nehru College. He stated that dual degrees are a good initiative. This initiative will help students to explore more areas. Their minds will not be restricted towards any one stream. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

This will also help them in exploring multiple careers. This will be a major advantage if students are focusing on careers such as the Union Public Service Commission. However, if students are planning on taking up UPSC while studying, then they will be able to only focus on a BA program or history or political science. They will not be able to explore other streams.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, it will make more sense if students are allowed to pursue one degree from an open university and the other from a regular college. As there is a lot of pressure even with one degree, the burden will increase while pursuing dual degrees. Therefore, an open university will save both energy and time. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

But the most important part is that the standard of open universities needs to be improved. It does not mean that open colleges are irregular and steps are taken haphazardly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Harjeev Singh Narula<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Harjeev Singh Narula is pursuing a BA in Economics at St. Stephens College. He stated that dual degrees will help students in the arts streams. However, this will pose a difficulty to the students of the science streams. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

For instance, It is a near-impossible task for a Physics student to pursue another major. However, a student of the arts stream will be able to pull off dual degrees in a better fashion. This will also add more importance to their degree. Further, it will offer more opportunities after graduation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It is, however, important to ensure that one degree is from an open university and the other is from a regular college. Otherwise, this will cause a clash of classes. This will also become too hectic for the students. Therefore, it is definitely a better idea to pursue one degree in distance learning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sneha Dey<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Sneha Dey is pursuing a BA (Hons) in Political Science at Miranda House. She stated that it was a good initiative. This idea will look very good on paper. However, when it comes to implementation, a lot of problems will be put forth. She stated that after the implementation of the NEP 2020, things at Delhi University have not been very smooth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A lot of things have been lacking at Delhi University. A lot of subjects have been added to the syllabus. However, the students have a very limited time, that is, they have only three months to complete seven subjects. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, the previous batches had only four subjects. Therefore, the larger question now is whether Delhi University is well equipped. It will impact the student in the end as they will be on the receiving end of it. They will suffer in a similar way just like they are going through the impact of NEP changes now. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Thus, she commented that it should be implemented only if it is thought out well. And also, they must ensure that they can implement it with the current resources.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Students may have the confusion about What should they study for the CUET exam<\/strong> when they have to choose dual degrees. This is because this year onwards, Delhi University is intaking students through CUET rather than class 12 board exam results.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
