Students with same CUET score – Class 12 mark as tie-breaker

Students with same CUET score – Class 12 mark as tie-breaker

For admissions to undergraduate programs this year, the Class 12 Board exams may prove to be useful for a Delhi University applicant. If two students have scored the same in CUET and wish to choose the same college and course, the first preference will be given to the one who has scored well in their Class 12 Board examination, i.e., Class 12 Board marks will act as a tie-breaker for allotment of seat.

The scores of the best three subjects will be compared in case of a tie between two students and if the best three are also the same, then the best four will be compared and then the best five. If the marks for the best five subjects are also the same, then age will act as a tie-breaker and the older applicant will get the seat.

This is the first instalment of the Central University Entrance Test conducted for admissions to undergraduate programs in 45 central universities and is being held in two phases over multiple dates from July 15 to August 20. A candidate’s CUET score will play a vital role in admissions to all undergraduate programs at Delhi University and not Class 12 marks.

The university will be offering 70,000 seats in undergraduate programs across several programs this year. Moreover, 20 per cent of extra students will be admitted under unreserved and OBC categories and 30 per cent in the SC/ST category to fill seats to the maximum level in the first round of counselling in undergraduate courses.

The reserved seats which remain vacant throughout the year will be filled through this method. Over 6.5 lakh admission applications have been received by the university for the academic session 2022-2023. A committee was constituted by the Delhi University to examine the issue of vacant seats in the SC/ST categories.

The committee has recommended that the admissions under the reserved categories must be done as early as possible up to the maximum level. While waiting for several days for the DU cut-off to come down, the admission process is quite lengthy and students of reserved category take admitted to another college.

The students will also have to make known their preference on the university admission portal again as the CUET scores will be subject wise and the eligibility is different for every course, a combination of subjects will be required.

The data regarding the marks of the students will be made available by the National Testing Agency and then, the preference must be filled by the students in the central portal.

The seats will then be filled up and if students who get their first choice are satisfied, then they can freeze their seats or else, they can wait for the second round. Students will be given many options in between rounds if they want to switch their college or course.
