All you need to know about CUET-UG – Necessary details

In April 2022, the Central University Entrance Test was introduced as an eligibility criterion for undergraduate admissions into any of the 45 central universities. This has happened in the light of the National Education Policy becoming public.

The National Testing Agency has announced that the Central University Entrance Test will be conducted between July 15 to August 10. Candidates will have to take up this test in a computer-based mode with multiple-choice questions to answer.

Candidates can apply for the entrance examination and make corrections to their applications by logging in to cuet.samarth.ac.in. The window for corrections will be closed at 11:50 pm on June 24. However, candidates are not allowed to make any changes to the email ID, mobile number and address but they are allowed to make changes to Class 10 details, Class 12 details, entrance centre city selection, medium of the exam, gender, category and date of birth.

Over 9.5 lakh applications have been received for CUET-UG 2022 for admissions across 86 universities of which 43 are central, 13 state universities, 18 private universities and 12 deemed universities. CUET is thus the second-largest admission examination in the nation for undergraduate programs and it is to be conducted in 13 languages across India.

The format for the examination consists of three sections namely; Language proficiency is tested in Section I, Section II tests the knowledge from core topics and Section III tests the general knowledge.

Section I is broken down into IA and IB. A candidate’s command of English or one of the 12 Indian languages is tested in Section IA and the examination will last for 45 minutes. Section IB lists 19 undergraduate programs in foreign languages that are offered by various central universities.

Section II tests the knowledge of the candidate in the fundamental disciplines they want to study at the undergraduate level. From a list of 27 subjects, a candidate can choose up to six subjects. The paper is for 45 minutes and a candidate is required to attempt 40 questions out of 50.

Section III tests the knowledge of the candidates in current events knowledge, general knowledge, numerical skills and general mental capacity along with the assessment of quantitative reasoning. The examination will be conducted for an hour and the candidates must answer 60 questions out of 75.

CUET possesses negative marking for incorrect answers and no points are deducted for not responding to a question. CUET examination is open to all the students who pass their Class 12 examinations from any recognized board. Neither the UGC nor the NTA has a specific age restriction for the entrance exam.
