Guidelines to foreign education issued by Andhra Pradesh

New guidelines have been announced by the Andhra Pradesh government to help students pursue foreign education with more emphasis on merit and have been made applicable to forward the caste poor students.

Students with parents earning an annual income below Rs. 8 lakhs are eligible to avail of the Videshi Vidya Deevena Scheme and the students must be of age below 35. The state will bear the study expenditure of the students accordingly who have secured seats in the first 200 universities in the QS World University Rankings.

The students who have secured seats in the first 100 universities will be getting the benefit of total fee reimbursement. A fee reimbursement of up to Rs. 50 lakh will be given to those who have secured seats in universities of rankings between 100 and 200.

The reimbursement amount will be released into the bank accounts of the students in four instalments and the first instalment will be released to the students who have secured an I-94 card or landing permit and the second instalment will be released after the results of the first semester.

The third instalment and fourth instalment will be released after the results of the second and final semesters. Students who are pursuing a PhD or MBBS would get free reimbursement either on a semester-wise or annual basis until they complete their course.

The scheme is applicable only to native students of Andhra Pradesh and only one student from a family will be able to get the benefit. The eligible students will be identified by the state government through a notification which will be released every year between September and December and again between January and May. Students will be selected by a committee headed by the AP chief secretary.
