QS World University Rankings 2022 – 19th Edition Data

The Indian Institute of Technology Delhi has risen by 11 places to 174th rank in the Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) World University ranking while prominent universities like the Jawaharlal Nehru University, Delhi University and Jamia Millia Islamia have slipped and gone down in the ranking.

QS which is a global higher education analyst released its 19th edition of the world’s most popular comparative data about the performance of universities. The 19th edition of the world’s most consulted international university ranking featured Delhi University as the 10th best Indian University. But Delhi University has slipped to the 521-530 category from the 501-510 bracket.

The Jawaharlal Nehru University slipped to 601-650 bracket from 561-570 bracket and the Jamia Millia Islamia slipped to 801-1000 band from 751-800 bracket. Similarly, Jamia Hamdard declined to 1201-1400 from 1001-1200 band.

Other universities such as the University of Hyderabad have slipped to 751-800 band from 651-700, Jadavpur University has slipped to 701-750 from 651-700 and IIT-Bhubaneswar slipped from 701-750 to 801-1000.

The Indian Institute of Science Bangalore has gained 31 places and the title of the fastest rising South Asian University among the top 200 universities coveted by QS World University Rankings. The research impact has been improved by 13 Indian Universities relative to global competitors seeing a rise in Citations per Faculty score.

However, the Indian Universities are struggling with the measure of institutional teaching capacity as it is seen that thirty of forty-one ranked universities from India have declined in QS Faculty and Student Ratio Indicator with improvements only from four colleges.

However, two Indian Universities have ranked among the top 250 for Faculty and Student Ratio compared to none in the previous edition of the QS ranking. Savitribai Phule Pune University has ranked 225th in the Faculty and Student Ratio Indicator followed by OP Jindal Global University ranked 235th and the Indian University of Sciences Bangalore ranked 276th.
